          Silent Auction Registration

This registration is set up to find out more information about you and your quilt. Some details about your quilt are repeated so that all the information is in one place.

Tell us about yourself as a quilter. Consider including information about the kinds of quilts you typically make, any prizes, awards, honors, or publicity you have received as a quilter (QA ribbons, admission into juried shows, awards at fairs, etc.), or publications you have appeared in. If you did not make this quilt, what, if anything, do you know about the maker?

Tell us about this quilt. Why did you make this quilt? What was your inspiration? What materials and methods did you use? Please include information regarding any award it has earned, whether it has been submitted to quilt shows or been published, that sort of thing. If you are not and do not know the maker, how did you come into possession of the guilt? This information will be used to create the “story” of the quilt that will be on display at the auction along with the quilt.

In this workshop you will cut large scale curves freehand without templates or patterns.  Add dots, skinny lines, wonky triangles and more to give each curve its own personality, then combine them into a fun original design. Cindy will teach us about color and design to create the composition as well as the techniques needed.

Skill Level: Best for students with some experience with curves - not for beginners.

This can include bowls, totes, placemats, table runners, small fiber art items, 3D fiber art and more. Submit a photo or two of the item with a description, materials and any pattern or inspiration used. The photos will be edited and a slideshow created to view the items with their descriptions. These items will NOT be displayed at the show. It is a virtual gallery only.

          Workshop:  Double Trouble

A modern quilt block that is really no trouble at all!  Double-Trouble is a fun quilt block and design workshop that merges a traditional half-square triangle block with an improvisational stitch and flip triangle technique. We’ll explore and inspire each other on the design walls with the unlimited controlled and chaotic quilt design potential this block has to offer.  One block = endless designs!

Katie will have multiple examples made with prints and solids to show for inspiration.

          Workshop: Crimson Christmas

Give your Christmas decor the wow factor with these oversized poinsettia blooms. The asymmetrical design gives a contemporary nod while the depth and richness of color brings an elegance to any space. This quilt is constructed using a variety of shapes and sizes all cut using the original Creative Grids 60 degree diamond ruler. The piecing starts out smaller in the middle and “blooms” out bigger with each row of petals. There is no fussy piecing or Y seams involved!

Ruler and pattern can be purchased on Krista's website.  Use code QA-CC for 50% off the digital pattern.

          Workshop: Elegant Skinny Lines

Have you admired contemporary art quilts with very skinny, elegant lines? This is your class to learn how to carefully piece those lines with precision, - without pinning! Once you’ve figured out the skinny straight lines, we’ll progress to soft curves, it’s easier than you think, you’ll learn how to step-by-step. Not even a ruler for cutting is necessary and completely optional. Use colorful batiks or showcase your precious hand-dyed fabric, - this is the place to try it and experiment as you won’t need much of it. And I’ll get you acquainted with a very simple, unusual for quilters, tool that might help you in more ways than just what this class covers.  We will look at how to quilt your project. Which look is your favorite? The currently popular “matchstick” quilting, going with the walking foot in straight-stitch spirals, or rather a free-form and free-motion allover pattern

We’ll look at examples of skinny line quilts from other artists and talk about possibilities, make some simple sketches to hold on to your idea how to apply this technique.

          Charity Work Party

Come help the Charity Committee prepare quilt tops for quilting.

Join the fun as we match tops with backs, cut binding strips, cut batting, and create bundles ready for quilting.

Please see the Supply List, and bring as many items as possible. Don't forget to label your supplies with your name.

We have several larger quilt tops that need pieced backs. If you can bring your sewing machine and help piece backs that will be so appreciated!

If you don't know how to do some of these things, now is your chance to learn. We'll show you how!

The Charity team will be picking up quilt tops, backing fabric, and batting at the Charity storage unit, but we will need help bringing it into the meeting room and then carting it back to our vehicles for the trip back to the storage unit.

Feel free to bring a snack or sack lunch. We usually take a break around noon.

We appreciate your help so very much! Thank you!

This meeting is an important part of the quilt show process so we can get feedback on what went well  before, during and after the show and how the quilt show can be improved for future shows.

We will also take some time to look ahead to the 2027 show, talk about what we know will be new for the next show and determine any openings to fill.

Quilt show sub-committee chairs are needed at this meeting. Subcommittee Chairs should prepare a brief report (3-5 min) about what went well and what they would change for their part in the show. You deserve a giant pat on the back and appreciation for your leadership during this year's show.

A special note to newer members: This meeting is a great way to learn about the inner workings of the quilt show and how you can be part of this important event. All are welcome!

          Workshop: Mini Mid-Mod Quilts

These charming little quilts are inspired by Mid-Century Modern design, and are a great skill-building project to learn a number of quilting techniques. We will start with a simple, modern color palette of neutral fabrics with a flash of color. Clean lines combined with simple design give each tiny composition a sophisticated feeling. Since we are working very small, this is a great project for using small scraps and bits of special fabric. Participants will learn the quilt-as-you-go method, and a PDF materials and supplies list will be emailed in advance. Hand stitching adds a sleek, linear element. Finishing techniques will be demonstrated.

          Workshop: Free Improv Piecing

This workshop is a relaxed and free-flowing day of freestyle patchwork piecing. This wonderful improvisational technique lets your fabrics tell you exactly where they want to go, taking all the pressure off fabric selection. You'll learn to trust your instincts and work more intuitively, creating beautiful combinations without second-guessing yourself.  The secret to achieving beautiful, harmonious results lies in choosing a colour palette with a highlight accent. It's the perfect opportunity to give new life to those fabric scraps from other projects or finally use those gorgeous pieces you've been treasuring for just the right moment.

          What You'll Learn:

          • Improvisational piecing techniques
          • How to work with fabric scraps and create cohesive designs
          • Grid and circular abstract patchwork methods
          • Basic quilting techniques for finishing your piece
          • Professional binding methods for a polished edge
          • Design decision-making and trusting your creative instincts
          • Options for turning your piece into functional items (cushions, bags, wall art)

          Workshop: Disintegration

Combine the precision of paper piecing with improvisation to create a disintegrating effect! We will be using the Radial Geese pattern in this class, which will give you the tools to apply a disintegrating effect to other paper piecing patterns in the future. We’ll also discuss other ways of incorporating the idea of disintegration or deconstruction into your quilts. Some paper piecing experience is recommended for this class.

          Workshop: FPP Design - Computer

In this workshop, Cole will work students through a step by step process of drawing a digital quilt block and the steps involved in designing an entire foundation paper piecing quilt pattern.  The class is long enough that members will have time to try the techniques and get feedback and help working on their own laptop.

Basic foundation piecing knowledge is necessary for this class as well as basic computer skills.

A laptop (Mac or PC) is or tablet required.  An iPad will not work.

To prepare for the class:  download the most recent version of Inkscape, a free and widely used application.  Here's the link:  Inkscape
Please make sure you download the most recent version of this software.

Supply list:  laptop with Inkscape already downloaded.  We will not be sewing in class.

Workshop: Material Matrix--this is a 2 day workshop on both Thursday Oct 15th and Oct 16th

My technique, "Material Matrix", is inspired by the painter, Chuck Close. It involves using a gridded photograph and interpreting each 2-inch square into fabric, using piecing to achieve the effect.  My lecture, "Material Matrix and the Paths Taken", is an overview of the evolution of Material Matrix and how it works.  In the workshop, in addition to the technique, I teach: what makes a good photo to use, color and value, curved-piecing, and how to grid your own photo. Everyone in the class will work on "Wake Up Cup"
