Speaker and Topic: Vicki Conley will be joining us in person to present her lectures "Inspired by the Parks" on Tuesday evening and "My Journey as an Artist" on Wednesday morning.
Workshop: Design From Photo to Imagination
In this special one and a half day workshop you will design and begin work on your own unique art quilt based on either a landscape or an animal. You should bring plenty of photos of your subject.
On Wednesday afternoon you will learn how to simplify and combine photos into a graphic design both the old fashioned way with tracing paper and with apps on the iPad.
On Thursday Vicki will teach her turned edge machine piecing technique using Floriani Stitch n Wash Fusible stabilizer. Cutting apart the stabilizer to use as templates you will see how easy it is to turn the edges with glue stick. It is left in the finished piece giving nice body to the art quilt. You will also learn Vicki's fussy piecing technique used in the sky section using a gradation fabric. Vicki will also have a demo and discussion about screen printing lettering onto quilts.
Here's a link to a video where Vicki explains this class in more detail. Click here.

Speaker and Topic: Beth Helfter will be joining us in person to present her lectures "Oompah! Accordion Sewn HSTs" on Tuesday evening and "Consistency in the Chaos" on Wednesday morning.
Workshop: Carpenter's Apprentice
If you are going to learn a new technique, you might as well go straight to the source - and that is what you will do in this workshop because Beth Helfter is the inventor of the Accordion Sewn HSTs method and the Carpenter's Apprentice was the first pattern that she produced that uses it. You can't get more original than that! In this workshop you will master how to make Accordion Sewn HSTs within the first 45 minutes and then move on to learn how to use them way beyond. You will learn how to use this technique not only to make HSTs more scrappy, but also how to create ordered accordions that layout large blocks and borders so easily you'll never want to make HSTs any other way again!

Cindy will teach us about color and design to create the composition as well as the techniques needed.
